Planting trees is a highly commendable Islamic virtue; the Prophet Muhammad is narrated as saying that “Whenever Muslims plant a tree, they will earn the reward of charity because of the food that comes from it; and likewise what is stolen from it, what the wild beasts eat out of it, what the birds eat out of it, and what people take from it is charity for them” (Muslim). In order to combat climate change, erosion and desertification, we need to plant a trillion trees worldwide!

Andalusia is particularly at risk, so we have started to plant avocado, orange, lemon and cedar trees, and wish to plant 100+ in the coming year. You can buy a bush, young tree or mature tree as an act of Sadaqa Jariya (ongoing charity), to commemorate a loved one or simply to contribute to preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of this landscape. These are planted alongside various shady walkways and beautiful spots for reflection, which we plan to embellish with poetry by Andalusi poets.

With your one-off contribution, we will plant and maintain on your behalf a tree or plant at Cortijo Azáhara, with the following options:

€50: grape or kiwi vine, rosebush or jasmine plant

€100: young tree, from the following options: pistachio, apricot, peach, plum, loquat, persimmon, date palm, grapefruit, almond, olive, kumquat, pineapple guava, walnut, chestnut, or mulberry

€200: mature tree (as above)

Please specify your choice of tree and the name of the person it is being planted for in your PayPal payment. Thankyou!
