Once a week, a small community of local Sufis have been congregating for a circle of dhikr (remembrance of God) in the Azahara Zawiya. We recite the “Wird al-Asas” by Shaykh ‘Abdal-Qadir Al-Jilani, as well as another wird (litany) given to us by Shaykh Muhammad Hydara Al-Jilani. Afterwards, we usually pray Maghrib together on the patio, weather permitting.
As the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “When you pass by the meadows of Paradise, graze as you like.” His Companions asked, “What are the meadows of Paradise?” The Prophet replied, “Circles of remembrance.” (Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3510). It is a beautiful reminder of those meadows to practice remembrance in such a spectacular natural setting – especially as the dhikr circle ends around sunset! This is a weekly event that all visitors are welcome to join.
